New Remsearch Pro

Please make sure to remove Remsearch before installing Remsearch Pro.

The latest development is an Ajax search module, that pops up results as you type (more than 2 characters). Apart from that, it has taken significant work to bring the component up to fully Joomla 5/6 compliance. Given how far the component has moved since it was part of Joomla, it has now become chargeable software.

Although Joomla has abandoned the traditional search approach, many people find that it is more practical than the so-called smart search. Some reasons for this are given in the Remository manual section on searching. Despite sticking to the old mechanisms, Remsearch Pro does not cut you off from the smart search move. The package includes a "Finder" search plugin that will use the information in the database to search among components that have moved to "smart" search. But if you enable the Finder plugin, make sure to disable plugins such as Content, otherwise you will get duplicate results.

Version 4 of Remsearch introduces a major extension - the Remsearch Finder plugin. This is installed automatically with the component, but needs to be enabled to take effect. If that is done, searches will take information from the finder database tables, in addition to anything returned by search plugins. This means that Remsearch can be operated with a mix of source - extensions that have enabled finder and do not have search plugins, and extensions where use of a search plugin is preferred.

The Remository search plugin is installed as part of Remository. Remsearch installs search plugins for the usual standard Joomla components. Search plugins are not enabled by default - you should enable the ones you want to be active.
