Version 5.0.0 has many technical changes to modernise the Remository code. Tests suggest that it is compatible with Joomla 6. However, support for Joomla 3.10 is withdrawn and the minimum PHP level is now 8.2. This version of Remository requires the new Black Sheep Research Library. Remository as a Joomla Update Server has greatly improved capabilities. See changelog for details of minor releases.

Feature changes

A small but significant change is that the message shown to users who are logged in but cannot download a file now states what group membership they need to download the file. The standard language string is: COM_REMOSITORY_ACCESS_IF_IN_GROUPS = "You could access this file is you were a group member of %s" and the actual groups will replace %s. If you prefer to describe them as subscription plans or whatever, you can easily override the language constant.

There are major improvements in the support for using Remository to deliver Joomla updates for software products stored in the Remository repository. They can be linked with our recently published Changelog Manager.

Compatibility Is now Joomla 4, 5 or 6.

• Although you can store your repository in conventional disk storage, Remository supports database storage. This guarantees security against any attempt to upload and then execute a file. User uploads (unless auto-approved) are stored in the database before being approved.

• Another alternative storage is Amazon AWS S3. That is also secure and offers very fast delivery of files. There are other competing services that are AWS compatible, but often much cheaper.

• Remository's role based access control system is flexible and efficient. It allows you to easily control which users have access to which folders in the repository

• The Joomla Update Server features of Remository support selling downloads by subscription. This can be combined with membership software, such as Membership Pro.

• With file stored in the database of AWS, repository migration becomes a matter of moving only the database tables.

• Remository is easily integrated with UserPoints so that points can be awarded for uploads, or deducted for downloads. You can sell points or award them for a variety of actions.

• Organisation of your repository is flexible, with files organised in folders that can be nested to any level. Files and Folders have text descriptions, and file descriptions support Markdown for text formatting.

• The Quickdown plugin allows the file repository to be incorporated into your Joomla articles with ease.

• A range of modules complements the main Remository component.

• Subscriptions for updates and support give access to professional help on any issues you might experience with Remository.

• Customisation can be achieved using standard Joomla techniques. All Remository displays use templates and layouts, and you can create overrides for any of them.

• Language definitions are in standard Joomla .ini files and can be given overrides to suit your eeds. A number of languages are currently supported and others can be added.

• An integrated comment feature is available as standard and user can rate files in the repository using a star system.
