New Glossary Features - 2012/10/23 21:56 All,

Have been using Glossary tool for last couple of days... But do miss some of the features that have in my wordpress glossary plugin....

a. Ability to assign Glossary Terms to Categories. Ability to have separate Glossaries allows some segregation but categories would be much better

b. Ability to allow some users to edit Glossary term from front end. Ideally would be great to control this via group ie. all users in group x can edit - however, really good first step would be just to allow users to edit their own entries.

Look forward to seeing how Glossary develops

Re:New Glossary Features - 2012/10/24 08:50 a) Could you enlarge on your suggestion that categories would be better? There has been a problem with Joomla that the notion of categories does not work across different applications, but are effectively separate by application. Because of this limitation, Glossary stopped using Joomla categories, to make maintenance easier.

b) You can, in fact, have people edit entries, but the access control is rather a blunt instrument, and there is no linkage to the edit facility in the current UI. You can open up to inserts and updates by anyone - highly risky! Or to all registered users - not very controlled. I'd agree more development would make this more useful. Are you thinking of categories primarily as a vehicle for access control?

Re:New Glossary Features - 2012/10/24 22:15 Hay Up,

No wasn't from an access control more so that categories could be used to group & filter terms within the glossary.... Say for example to group together, "Utility Terms", "Banking Terms" , "IT Terms" etc etc

Agree though, not sure that Joomla categories is the best route for this, so something 'within' the glossary tool is probably the way to go.
