Can't save configuration - 2009/07/03 11:21 The configuration of Remository cannot be saved,as the buttons "Save Configuration" and "Control Panel" in the Remository-Config page both produce the following error:

ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While trying to retrieve the URL: sitename/administrator/index2.php

System data:
Linux server
Joomla version 1.5.11
Remository version 3.52.2

Any ideas about this?

Re:Can't save configuration - 2009/07/03 12:09 The problem solved.

The reason was the following (for your information):

The server has an SSL certificate, but https is not obligatory yet.
If you access the admin site via http - the remository configuration cannot be saved.
If you access the admin site via https - the configuration can be saved successfully.

Re:Can't save configuration - 2009/07/09 10:50 The configuration is not held in a file, it is held in the database, in a table called xxx_downloads_repository which has just one record.

I would be interested to investigate a site that has this problem to find out what is happening. Temporary super admin access would be needed.

Re:Can't save configuration - 2009/07/20 11:13 I have looked at a site suffering from this problem and made a change that appears to solve it. The altered code will be in a minor release later today. It has been impossible so far to find a reason for the problem, but the fix works at least on one site! Try the new code when it is released. Martin Brampton aka Counterpoint

I am working with joomla Version 1.5.12

Re:Can't save configuration - 2009/07/21 12:03 That is different from the problem of being returned to the administrator page. I've not seen an example of being logged out.

If you would like me to investigate, please provide a temporary super admin login. Email the credentials - my email is in any of the Remository code files.

Re:Can't save configuration - 2009/07/21 17:39 Also, it now looks as if the change that I made was a palliative only, and left the underlying problem.

The probable cause of the failure of the toolbar to operate is the Suhosin PHP add-on. It imposes apparently arbitrary limits on the amount of POST data that can be submitted in a form, and simply ditches any excess. Thus when the hidden fields needed for navigation were at the end of the form, they were lost, but when they are moved to the start of the form, they are not lost. But other fields near the end of the form are still lost.

Naturally, the Remository configuration form contains a good many fields, and if some of them are lost, then it cannot function properly.

Although additional security is something desirable, Suhosin is not easy to configure and can create unexpected and hard to discover problems.

Re:Can't save configuration - 2009/07/23 00:51 That is a question about the configuration of your web server, it is outside the control of Remository or any PHP program. The Suhosin site gives information about installation and configuration. Martin Brampton aka Counterpoint

Re:Can't save configuration - 2009/07/30 17:28 Hi Martin,

I am having a similar problem as well. When I click to save the configuration changes, the browser eventually times-out and displays a blank "webpage is unavailable" page.

I am running Joomla 1.5.13 and Remository 3.52.6J. It is a fresh, first-time installation.

I am really excited about using this component, so any way that you can help would be greatly appreciated. Can I e-mail Super Administrator credentials so that you can look at the problem?

Thanks!
Tom

Re:Can't save configuration - 2009/09/05 23:03 I'm afraid you will be liable to quirky problems with mod_security installed. It's a powerful security measure, but also requires constant skilled management to maintain its power while avoiding disrupting legitimate traffic. Very few hosts are able to apply that ongoing skilled management, unfortunately. Martin Brampton aka Counterpoint

Re:Can't save configuration - 2009/12/19 14:40 Hi,

thanks for your module, i like it very much.
The problem is the same for me, impossible to save configuration.

I have Joomla 1.5.14 and Remository 3.52.8

it says the conf is saved but nothing is really saved.
I don't now what is Suhosin or how to know if it is implemented on my server. I don't own the server but i have the phpinfo if it is usefull.

Thanks for your help.

Re:Can't save configuration - 2009/12/20 16:58 If there is mention of suhosin in the information provided by phpinfo, then it is installed on your server. You can find out about it at http://www.hardened-php.net/suhosin/. Although it is a good idea in principle, in practice it is often troublesome and requires more skilled administration than most hosts can provide. Martin Brampton aka Counterpoint

Re:Can't save configuration - 2009/12/26 16:41 thanks for your answer but i had looked before as i read that information in previous comments in the forum.

There is nothing about suhosin in the phpinfo result but i'm not a developper or a webmaster. I just deal with websites for fun without big knowledge.

Here is my phpinfo result if you may have a look to find something else.

http://xfragbel.free.fr/result_phpinfo.htm

(this page was not generated on the server free.fr where it is hosted now, it is just an old account i have on a server).

Thanks for your help.

In fact i managed to modify many remository options directly in the database but the names of the fieds does not always match prefectly with what's writen in the website page...i don't want to do a mistake.

For those who wants to do the same, it is easy to go to table jos_downloads_repository (first three letters depends on your configuration), but it is like for me at your own risk. There is only one recording in this table and most of the fields are in the same order than the website page... good luck.

Re:Can't save configuration - 2010/01/07 19:36 Hi !

I had the same problem.

I think it's not related to "suhosin" issue because i have several sites on the same hosting and the other have no problem with remository (and it is the same configuration, hosting, php.

I've solved the issue :
Uninstall / Reinstall component and now i can save my configuration

The weird thing : Before reinstalling Remository, i tried with phpmyadmin to change configuration, exemple, i change the value Allow_Comments in jos_downloads_repository (i work with joomla). so i put the value 1 to 0 and nothing happened in Remository / Configurations. I mean, no changes at all.

Is it normal ?

Hope it could help to solve the issue

Re:Can't save configuration - 2014/07/31 13:56 Hey,

I am not able to save the configurations, I am using Joomla 2.5 and everything else works fine but when I try and change things on the configuration menu and then save it will not let me, any help would be great as I have been looking for something like this for a very long time and I would really love it to work properly.

thanks

Re:Can't save configuration - 2014/08/03 15:23 This problem is usually associated with web hosting that has suhosin installed.

The suhosin security mechanism imposes an arbitrary block on the number of fields that can be submitted in a form, and this is often set too low for the Remository configuration page. If you have access to the web server configuration, you can change the limit. If not, you can ask your web host to do it.

The way suhosin does this is not user friendly - it just throws away the request and you are left to figure out the problem.
