Not quite ready for 1.5 imo. - 2008/06/23 09:55
I realize that combining a lot of error reports in a single thread isn't particularily effective forum practice, but most of the things I am reporting here have been reported in other threads and seeming left unresolved. So while I will try to be constructive, I'm really not sure this component is ready for prime time in 1.5 and it's certainly not 'leading the field' as the home page suggests. This is too bad, because in general, I really like how the program is structured and displays.
The feeling I get reading through the posts though, is that the admins are almost resentful of the scope of changes 1.5 introduced, and unwilling to fully embrace or support them. Which is their prerogative, but please don't try to sell the component as ready for native joomla 1.5.
After 3 hours of trying to configure what should be a fairly straight forward component:
1. If Filenames, Container names, or Container descriptions contain an apostrophe, the program inserts backslashes before them. Apparently this has to do with distributed language files that don't work properly in 1.5. I could not get a user-provided fix to work.
2. I was not able to edit a file that was named with an apostrophe - it was like the javascript would go dead for the page on the backend. Had to nuke the file and re-upload.
3. I changed the config setting to increase the allowable upload. This resulted in users being unable to upload - the Upload button showed "Submit Denied - no space left". I dropped it to 100megs and now it's working. If there is a hard-coded limit, it might be good to put that in the parameter description.
4. If the config is set to NOT show files that the user could not download - the Multi-purpose module stops displaying - even if a user with the proper group privilages is logged in. (Module in Registered publish state)
5. If the module is set to Public publish state, and the viewer is not logged in, it will still display files that should not be visible.
6. I'm not exactly sure what the purpose of the Download Text Box is... but I'm pretty sure that it shouldn't be inserting backslashes before every quotation mark. I'm sure this is related to the language problem, but it also looks like this particular field is adding a backslash for every backslash whenever you open the control panel. End result? I have a text box with about a million backslashs in and around all the google-ads script.
Anyways, I hope the language issue can be resolved, one way or another, even if it is in the form of a sticky or FAQ with explicit instructions on how to fix the issue if the files can't be repaired at the source.
