Display entire document tree? - 2007/11/16 18:42 Hi,

I have been searching for a component or module for Joomla that displays more than 2 levels of the hierarchical tree. Nothing seems to do it - not DOCMan, Remository, not anything. I guess Joomla Xplorer does it, but only at the back end. Is there some inherent reason why this is so? Could somebody point me to an application that does it? It looks like possibly Mosets Tree might work, but they don't seem to have a trial period. Does it seem like it might be an easy "hack" to Remository? Any comments?

Thanks.

Re:Display entire document tree? - 2007/11/16 21:44 Hi Susan,

Try to take a look on idocyou.com. try the link "all documents".

If it,s what you need, it's an integration bot between remository and sefservicemap.

You can configure a little bit.

I hope it's useful.

Re:Display entire document tree? - 2007/11/16 23:59 It's not that hard to do something of the kind using Javascript. You can see a rough try at http://www.joomlaguru.co.uk/download/func-tree/ Martin Brampton aka Counterpoint

Re:Display entire document tree? - 2007/11/17 01:46 Thanks to you both. I will check out idocyou.com and "think" about doing it with javascript, based on the sample url suggested.

Re:Display entire document tree? - 2007/11/20 22:52 Hi Marwen,

I have installed mod_dtreemenu V1.8 which seems to partially mimic the func-tree URL you recommended to me. Not sure if you are familiar with mod_dtreemenu? See http://www.mamboportal.com/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,46/func,fileinfo/parent,folder/ filecatid,994/

At any rate, it only *almost* works for me. First of all, I can only get it to display my main menu even though the scant documentation clearly states this should not be so. Second of all (and this is the more important point), it is a module not a component. Is there a basic mambo/joomla technique I am missing to display a module in the main content pane of a page? Or to convert a module to a component? Forgive me, I am NOT a Joomla! developer, not a php programmer - although if pointed to some quality How-Tos I can probably fake it.

I did look at the source for the func-tree URL you sent and saw all the calls to the dtree.add method, but I am not knowledgeable about how to connect to mysql and get the parameters that actually displayed the page... That page was not a Joomla! page, right?

Thanks for your help.

Re:Display entire document tree? - 2007/11/21 16:06 I came across dTree (http://www.destroydrop.com/javascripts/tree/) in the past. I never did test it out, but it looks like it may solve the need for a tree menu.

If anyone gives it a try, post your results.

Edited to include url.

Re:Display entire document tree? - 2007/11/21 16:21 Hi axiom7,

I am not familiar with mod_dtreemenu V1.8 and I can not find it on joomla.org/extension/search/sitemap.

When I visited the link you gave I can not display the true page it said “invalid id”.

At this time, i have not read on how to convert a module to a component ? But i think it's "doable" (may be there is some more easy ways)

But if you want a solution to display a multi level tree of your remository document you can try the solution which Martin described below or you can easily install one of the these 2 component :
Sefservicemap or xmap.

Both have an integration with remository by which you can have a good display of your documents.

The page what I gave you in idocyou is a joomla page using the component sefservicemap.

I hope it’s helpful and sorry if I don’t answer all your questions.

Re:Display entire document tree? - 2007/11/26 15:58 HI Marwen,

Not sure why you can't view the URL for dTree, as it works for me (I just tried it from my post...). Problem with idocyou is that it displays the hierarchy when you "display all documents" but doesn't display the entire hierarchy once you navigate anywhere within that display.

I'm still trying to do this - but wish you could "see" the dTree url. It's not at joomla.org, but rather at www.mamboportal.com. I can't "search" that site for anything and am not sure how I originally found that link. I'll post it here again in text. Here goes....

http://www.mamboportal.com/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,46/func,fileinfo/parent,folder/ filecatid,994/

Thanks.

Re:Display entire document tree? - 2007/11/26 16:11 The illustration at http://www.joomlaguru.co.uk/download/func-tree/ uses dTree. Is it anything like what you want? Martin Brampton aka Counterpoint

Re:Display entire document tree? - 2007/12/01 20:11 Hi,

I have installed dtree and it's a great module !

If you want to display a module on the main body you can use the mambot mosloadposition
http://www.bpixel.com/joomla/tips/Mambot_%3A_Load_Module_Positions/

ou mosiinline
http://www.joomlafrance.org/telecharger/fileinfo/MosInLine_4.5.1.html

You should include it on a your content.
I hope it's helpful .

If Martin had used a better methods i am interested too .

Other thing, when i have tryed dtree i was able to publish the menus but not the files and the categories of remository.
Martin, Can you precise please if it's an existing integration dtree/remository or a hack that you made on dtree.

Many thanks .

Marwen.
