Glad you've made it to the new site, Al! OK, maybe I will try a different template. The overall impression is quite nice, but mostly I don't have to read the articles - I just have to write them! Or perhaps I could tweak the existing template.
So far, I can't figure out where the red colour is coming from. It seems to be a specific setting, as it is a "color" parameter on a span, which suggests it is Simpleboard. But I've not found an option in Simpleboard to change any colour except for the bar indicating number of posts. And it doesn't look too easy to find one's way around the Simpleboard code.
Do you prefer this text colour?

Anyway, is there any chance that it might be possible to increase the contrast for news? The current setting is extremely tiring for the eyes when reading longer texts. The text colour here in the input box is a lot better!
