Re:SEF for Glossary - 2007/05/10 19:29 Hello Martin,

I installed the SEF Glossary extension found here seems to be working with sh404SEF, what is not working is the glossary search function and the glossary search bot if you want to try is check the link on the first post.

I really hope you can release a universal* SEF patch and a new search bot sooner than later.

* By universal I mean something that would work with any SEF component (sh404SEF, OpenSEF, Advance SEF and etc.)

Take care

How did you do this on sh404SEF?
I have dropped com_glossary.php in /components/com_sef/sef_ext but it screws up things.

Thanks,
Nuno.

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2007/06/02 15:21 In my case it doesn't. There's not even a constant pattern of error.
Once i place com_glossary in /components/com_sef/sef_ext, the menu link to Glossary disappears (though it is thee and published).
On other occasions, the layout will render until the exact point where the link to Glossary should appear.

Once i have got it to display the link, clicked on it and the whole template was simply gone.

Code:

 NoticeUndefined variablemosConfig_live_site in /var/www/vhosts/subdomains/site/httpdocs/components/com_sef/sef404.php on line 796

Thanks,
Nuno.

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2007/06/02 16:49 I don't know what could be wrong as you can see it works for me, I didn't do anything just placed the file in the folder, you could post it over at sh404SEF forum maybe the developer will be able to help

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2007/06/06 19:36 I got it to work.

I used the one at ARTIO SEF

download the extension

and then modify the code

you need to remove the word static on line 16

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2007/11/21 21:04 For sh404SEF 1.3 and Joomfish 1.7 the Artio Joomsef com_glossary.php sef extension seems to work.
Lower version Artio extensions seem to have an error (see other posts).
Artio 2.x extensions call functions from Artio JoomSEF - consequence is a fatal error.
I used the JoomSEF 1.5.3 extension successfully.
Hence: get the highest JoomSEF 1.x, unzip, find the com_glossary extension and copy it to your sh404SEF extension folder.
A merci beaucoup to Artio, shumisha and Brampton Factor

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2009/01/29 00:17 Hi,
I just installed and fully tested Glossary J1.5 Native and I like that it works much better than other components especially for SEF.

I managed to write a new plugin for GLossary for sh404SEF and Joomla 1.5.

My question is: any plans to change the non-sef links in the future?
Good day,
Danny

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2009/03/15 14:49 Thank you very much for providing this file. I installed this extension for sh404SEF, and while the main glossary page works very well, additional pages and terms do not pick up the metadata of the main glossary url. I am not sure this is a limitation of sh404SEF or the plugin. Does anyone know if it is possible to have all glossary urls replicate up the metadata of the primary url? i.e. the name, keywords, and description. If not, this plugin is very limited in usefulness, since I doubt anyone will take the time to define custom metadata for all glossary entries and letters. Given the widespread usage of the sh404SEF component, it would seem that the full functioning of this plugin is important.

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2009/11/10 18:25 Hello and good evening.

I was wondering if anyone had a working version of the sef for this great program? All the links in the thread are currently dead and gone. And sh404sef has nothing working for Glossary yet.

Thank you kindly for your time, and thank you for the great component.

Peace,

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2009/11/18 13:50 i would rather pay the developer of the Glossary Component than spend money for this AceSEF Plugin (unfortunately, its not free or open source).

So, it would the best idea if Glossary came up with its own sef functionality, i guess some of us are waiting for this since 2007

Thanks,
Michael

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2009/11/18 17:22 Not truly open source either. When I bought the Remository plugin and then made it a free download here, they complained. Although GPL is absolutely clear that when you purchase a product that is covered by GPL, you have the right to redistribute it at any price or no price. They then tried to retrospectively change the license to commercial, after the contract of purchase had already been made.

I wouldn't guarantee that their plugins are open source at all now. Although that is also highly questionable, since it is hard to see how a SEF plugin can fail to be a derivative work in relation to the product for which it is written.

There will be SEF in the next release of Glossary, which is under development. Much of the work is done (including the SEF and metadata work) although I can't give a release date. It will work with the Joomla native SEF or any SEF that uses the SEF Advance interface.

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2009/11/18 17:29 That is good news Admin.. from myself and everyone else, THANK YOU.

Sadly,I had purchased two different versions and though one semi worked the other did not ork out quite as well as it said/should have. The one plugin I bought that did not work out so well, also does not have that great of support. I requested assistance since some features just did not work out too well, such as search and a few other important issues, and I am still waiting on any reply. I asked for assistance later the same day I bought his plugin for Glossary.

I am excited to see how this goes. I must also say thank you for a great component. I bought one a few months ago, yet I am glad that I went back looking. This one is still the best. Just working out some styling and layout issues to match my theme.

Peace,
Sarrene'

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2010/01/26 20:58 Indeed. I am available for testing!

We were using the file that used to be available in this thread, but subsequent changes on our site forced us to remove it. Now the glossary links are no longer pretty, and we are losing those who find those links in search engines...

Any news on the new version?

Re:SEF for Glossary / sh404SEF - 2010/04/12 21:33 Hi everyone,

I searched around and programmed a bit on the basis of JoomAce adaption of the sh404 plugin. Thank you to the guys who prepared that! (What a mess to do...)

Here is my com_glossary.php plugin for sh404SEF

Have fun!
BillCo

Features / result via sh404SEF will look like this:

Menu: If Itemid it takes the menu name so the menu is set accordingly.
Alphabet: language/glossaryname/letter
GlossaryItem: language/glossaryname/Itemname with .html-ending
Pagenumbering: language/glossaryname/letter/page#
Xmap-Sitemap ("entry"): language/glossaryname/Itemname with .html-ending

If you prefer a "/"-ending instead of ".html" for the items, please uncomment the lines #106 and #132.

If you named your glossary(-category) and the menu name differently, menu and sitemap items will look differently from the rest (didn't test it yet...)

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2010/05/26 13:55 Hello!

I'm testing the last version combine with SH404SEF and I detect some problems.

When I create a new glossary the URL is:

http://xxx.net/Diccionario/Diccionario-1/A/grupo-sumatorio-1/

I think that how can I do to don't add this numbers 1 because it's ugly and google don't likes it.

Thanks a lot!

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2010/06/01 19:12 I read that to optimize google positions the Friendly URLs must be to say the most simple posible and use at minimum hyphen ( ‐ ) symbol.

In this case if URL are:

http://xxx.net/Diccionario/Diccionario-1/A/grupo-sumatorio-1/

It's most correct that called:

http://xxx.net/Diccionario/Diccionario/A/grupo-sumatorio/

PD: Martin, if you can, view this post because I detect a bug with diferent dictionarys and URLs

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2010/06/04 10:13 Nobody knows exactly how Google works.

In general, search engines treat hyphens as a word separator, and so will be able to recognize the individual words in the URL if they are split by hyphens. This is preferable to running them together, or using any other character (space being illegal in a URL).

The number is to make sure that the name is not ambiguous.

Re:SEF for Glossary - 2010/06/04 21:05 Hi BillCo i see other little bug that when I acess to a termy athrought mod_glossarynewest or mod_glossarylist all urls create a end strange termination:

http://diccionariomedico.net/Diccionario-prefijos/Diccionario-Medico/A-vitamina?func=fileinfo

And I look that all URLS created with first Diccionario-prefijos. It's very strange because this name is that i called into alias menu of one of the three glossaries. Maybe this is a problem with Glossary?

http://diccionariomedico.net/Diccionario-prefijos/Sufijos-medicos/voro?func=fileinfo

http://diccionariomedico.net/Diccionario-prefijos/Prefijos-medicos/A?func=fileinfo

http://diccionariomedico.net/Diccionario-prefijos/Diccionario-Medico/A-vitamina?func=fileinfo

Many thanks!
