UNC access to files - 2007/03/20 20:33 Hello, After many time "developing" the site I'm working at, now we realized that we need to allow users to modify the file they have downloaded. So as if an UNC access we were talking about. And no way they are going to submit again, we need to modify directly the file opened.

I'm not at programming and I have really no much idea about if it's an easy thing to do or not. Could I modify myself the way the files are opened? Let's say I dont want to open the file via http, but using UNC. Permisions are not a problem since I'm owning my Server so I have full control on it.

By the way, using the searchbot for remository I found that some words don't come out correct, could you try to put a file named "php" or "changes" (without comas) and see if your searchbot finds them? Mine doesn't!

Thank you very much for your help!

Re:UNC access to files - 2007/03/21 09:02 For performance and effectiveness, Remository uses MySQL full text indexing for word search. By default, this will not index words shorter than 4 characters. Also, it has a stop list of common words that are not indexed, including "changes". If you have access to your MySQL configuration you can change both the 4 character limit and the list of stop words.

I'm not at all clear why you would want to use UNC, or what it is you need for your users. What kind of files are you wanting to be able to modify in situ?

Re:UNC access to files - 2007/03/21 14:23 Hi admin!

Did I say a beer??? you are wining a full nice meal, maybe a tasty home-made spanish paella?!!

Thanx for the information about the "search" problem, I'll find and change it. Thanx for that.

About the UNC acces, the thing is that "downloading" the file, you get a "new" file, for example if you downloaded a file named elsa.txt, you get elsa[1].txt, wich is not the real file. I need that users be able to open the original file elsa.txt and if they want to modify it they just have to make a "save" and that is. So they don't have to publish a new file, and just save the changes they have made.
This is because the website I'm working at is a Database of full documentation of my department. So my coleagues publish documentation related to our work and our new methods to install things.

This site won't be able to be accessed from outside internet, and everybody will be administrator, we are making this just as a way to make all the information available to everybody, and an easy way to find the information we are all sharing.

I need that the publishing is easy and not too many clicks, so I need that they can access the files and modify them "in situ". No security problems will there be, as I said all of us are admins.

Any suggestion about this??

Thanks a milion!!

Elsa.
