possible to remove files via front end? - 2007/02/23 00:35 Am I missing something?

Just wondering it it is possible (or if not may be a good suggestion) to add the ability to be able to remove files via front end of this component?

Re:possible to remove files via front end? - 2007/02/23 12:03 I always think this is a questionable move. There is no need for it if only admins are permitted to delete. If submitters are permitted to delete their own files, that is liable to raise some quite tricky issues. Do you really want people to be able to unilaterally remove files from your repository? This could be highly unwelcome! Martin Brampton aka Counterpoint

Re:possible to remove files via front end? - 2007/03/26 20:34 yes oh yes i do want that!!!!! i want the person that uploads something to be able to delete it.

i host a sim racing portal. we have all kinds of files for online racing games. when someone creates a new version of their content (a car or a track), they need to remove the old one from existence, so everyone has the same file for online play.

this is a major pita for me, as i have to manually del the old stuff for them.

one of the sites i frequent has versioning built in for the uploader. it's great, i can upload the new ver, add the new info and take the old one off line all in the same process. no admin intervention is required.

make it optional if you want. but once i start hosting more than a few hundred files, i will have to switch to something that does have versioning and offers user control over their content. i hope that comes along in remo...

Re:possible to remove files via front end? - 2007/03/29 11:37 You don't need deletion for that. A user can upload a new version of a file, and it replaces the old version. Isn't that what you're asking for? Martin Brampton aka Counterpoint
