help please - two problems - 2006/09/25 06:21 I upgraded to the 2.0 beta Glossary, but can no longer save the configuration settings. All permissions are set correctly, but when I type in the config settings in the backend and press save, the fields are left blank/not selected. The config file also shows blank settings.

I've also been getting a frontend error (why I upgraded in the first place, so it's obviously not a version error) - no matter what permissions (public, registered or special) are set for the frontend link to the component, I get a 'You must login' message.

I can't access the glossary at all from the front end.

Any help would be appreciated!

TIA,

Na3

Re:help please - two problems - 2006/09/25 09:56 Not sure - I haven't seen any of those problems myself. It is always possible there is some kind of compatibility issue - what system and version are you using (Mambo/Joomla)?

In case there is a Glossary compatibility problem, I'm willing to poke around to find out what is happening if you're prepared to let me have temporary super admin access to your site. Otherwise, it's really all guess work

Re:help please - two problems - 2006/09/29 08:25 I'm using Joomla 1.0.11. The latest version. Before that I was using 1.0.10, and before that 1.0.8.

None of them have worked.

However, I can still create glossary items from the backend, so I can make do with this for the time being...

I don't know why the config doesn't save though.

Maybe I'll revert to the previous version...

Edit: I have managed to manually edit the config file, but if I save the changes in the backend config page, it deletes the changes. Odd...

Also, while checking the frontend link of the Glossary component I noticed that the kink includes com_content...

Here's the link:

http://www.thepromptcopy.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=com_glossary&id=35&Itemid=138

I checked out the menu link in the backend, and it was linked to a Table- Category Content link. I deleted it and tried to add a new menu link, but couldn't find the component in the list. On further research (http://www.remository.com/component/option,com_mamboboard/func,view/catid,12/id,3561/#3561) I added "option=com_glossary" to the php myadmin as it says in the above link. The menu item appeared, and now the Glossary works from the front end! Yay!

However, without the config working, it seems the glossary items won't appear.

Re:help please - two problems - 2006/10/01 17:37 It sounds as if you may have file permission problems, but I cannot tell from the information provided. Martin Brampton aka Counterpoint

Re:help please - two problems - 2006/10/03 06:39 The config file has permissions set at 766. More than enough to save the changes. And besides, that doesn't explain why I can edit the file manually, but can not change the config from the backend area of the glossary.

Re:help please - two problems - 2006/10/04 11:05 Life is not that simple What the permission means depends on who owns the file. The file owner may be different from the user running the PHP scripts (i.e. Joomla and Glossary). In which case there can be a problem.

The fact that you can edit the file tends to confirm this, as you are presumably doing this via FTP or a file manager - and you are probably the file owner in that case.

Please see my article on hosting and permissions for a fuller explanation of the issues.
