Download Hits Gone Wild - 2006/09/10 21:13 Hi, I've had this problem with the previous versions and I thought upgrading to RC2 would solve the problem but it didn’t. I have this problem on my site where the download component seems to crash and loop and make my hit counter artificially go up. Even my host sent me an email saying stuff was crashing.

(this was from 3.25)
"Hello,

One of your components has been crashing the hosting server you are on -
I caught it by watching your apache instance:

The first and last case there have way too many requests (300k+). I
haven't disabled it but you might want to if you aren't sure how that
coule be happening. I did go ahead and firewall a proxy server that had a
lot of hits on the page and they may have fixed it (so far the load is
stable without disabling that component but I'll have to keep an eye on
it).

Thanks!
John"

I thought maybe it was because of download accelerators so is there someway to make remository make DL accelerators fail?

Re:Download Hits Gone Wild - 2006/09/13 15:37 Remository doesn't take any specific action to support download accelerators. My understanding of byte serving for PHP scripts is pretty superficial at present It would be quite a major project to add this capability to Remository.

It isn't clear why you are getting very large numbers of requests - accelerators usually ask for quite large chunks and therefore don't need very many of them. And I would expect Apache to reject the requests when directed to a script that can't handle them.

But I can't be sure of any of this.

Re:Download Hits Gone Wild - 2006/09/13 23:14 Thanks for the reply. Firefox has this plugin called flashgot that lets download acceleators work in places where download accelerators on IE woulden't.
