BUG Remository is loosing location for Containers - 2010/08/19 13:48 From time to time Remository 3.53 is loosing the path to the containers, ending up with a load of files in the root.

If for example the path for one contaier is like this
/abcdefghqwertyu/zxcvbna/hgb001/edgsfg2-xgthe/MyWebsROOT/www/ebaman/remos_downloads/ELECTRONICS/ Instruments_etc/ABI/

Sometimes (actually quite often, the path for some reason is changed to
/abcdefghqwertyu/zxcvbna/hgb001/edgsfg2-xgthe/MyWebsROOT/www/ebaman/remos_downloads/ELECTRONICS/

This behaviour creates quite a lot of work, finding the relevant Containers and restore theis location.
However I'm not sure when it happens, so I cant say if it happens when a file is uploaded or downloaded or the container is browsed.

Today I have spent 3 hours restoring some 50 containers.

Furthermore, since all paths still is absolute paths, I am very soon breaking the limit, since the maximum length of the path for a file is 255
characters.
Currently I'm up to 240 characters in the filepath.

The database currently contains 709 containers and 8600 files stored on disk, Total used space is around 46GB.

Re:BUG Remository is loosing location for Containers - 2010/08/22 17:22 Is there a leading space in the later part of your path?

I'd strongly recommend avoiding the use of spaces in directory names.

I don't know of any situation other than saving a container (admin side) that would alter the path.

Although "Add files already on the server" could have a strange effect if it is being applied repeatedly to the same location.

Re:BUG Remository is loosing location for Containers - 2010/08/22 18:03 No there is no spaces in the path (I know that they can create problems).

Probably a typo in the post.

The only thing I can imagine causing this problem is when a new file is approved, or the location is changed when approved.

Re:BUG Remository is loosing location for Containers - 2010/08/23 14:35 There are only a very limited number of places where the table containing container details is updated. They are all on the admin side.

Apart from the "Add files already on the server", the only places the table is written are after an update by admin. There are two possible writes after the update is saved. One simply writes whatever information has been entered on the screen. This should work correctly unless there is some unusual situation that causes the POST data to be truncated.

The other is that if the "Yes" radio button is set next to the text "Descendant containers to inherit?" (in the Storage box) then all containers that are below the one being edited will have their filepath set to the value entered in the edit screen.

Other updates to the containers table are specific in their effects - they modify particular fields such as the file counts.

Re:BUG Remository is loosing location for Containers - 2011/05/03 03:27 I have a smiliar issue. I created 5 container with absolute path. But whenI choose the option to "Add files" all file were moved to single folder. Issue seem to have started with in the last couple of releases.

Re:BUG Remository is loosing location for Containers - 2011/05/29 19:29 Do you mean "Add files already on the server"?

The files should move to the container that you specify. Subdirectories will result in new folders being created, except that Remository will try to avoid creating a new folder where one already exists.
