betaRC first test - 2010/06/09 09:00 Could anyone involved in betaRC test tell me if there are the following problems?

I uninstalled previous glossary version and deleted all the glossary tables, in order to be sure to start again from zero.

I installed betaRC and inserted some terms in a single glossary with aliases.

I do not know why, but:

- in pages different from the frontpage, the glossary recognizes the aliases only after having searched the alias with the search function: the first time I insert the term in glossary and open the page with that term, the term is not active; when I search the term with the search option and open the page (as a result of the search) I see the term active and it remains active afterwards.

- the glossary is not active on the first page ("Content - Glossary terms popups" plugin has the parameter "show on frontpage" set to yes). This is true even after having searched the terms of the glossary put in the first page.

Re:betaRC first test - 2010/06/09 11:10 Are you sure your site is not serving pages from cache? If a page is served from cache, then content plugins do not get called and have no chance to do anything.

I have activated the Glossary content plugin for the front page at http://j15.testremository.com and immediately numerous words have links and definitions.

Re:betaRC first test - 2010/06/10 10:52 It wasn't a cache problem.
I have in frontpage the the word Ai-Ki-Do and had set "find exact terms=yes" in the glossary terms popup plugin.
With the three terms ai, ki, do in the glossary, with the previous 2.6 version all the three terms were active in the main page.
I've realized now that the current beghaviour is slightly different: I have separated the three terms in the frontpage (Ai - Ki - Do) and now all works well!

Sorry to everybody for my mistake.

BetaRC works well:

all the terms are correctly recognized;
the aliases are recognized too;
no problem with japanese transliterated word with macrons;
no errors in using search function.

Thank you Martin

Re:betaRC first test - 2010/06/10 16:52 Thanks for the feedback

I'm not sure you were making a mistake, but it's quite a tricky one, your example of Ak-Ki-Do.

The difference is that with the regular expression used in 2.6 hyphen is not counted as a word character, and therefore it gets split into three separate words.

In 2.7 a different technique is used, and the text is split on anything that is white space or a punctuation character. It seems that hyphen is NOT a punctuation character, and it certainly isn't white space. So Ak-Ki-Do is a single word on that principle.

I had to think about that for a while, but it probably does make sense. On reflection, it does seem better that hyphenated words should be treated as whole words rather than split into their constituent parts. At least as a general principle.

Unfortunately, no scheme will work ideally in every case - language is just too varied for that!
