Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2008/05/10 20:54 I don't think you should need a migrator plugin for Remository. If the database tables from an earlier installation are present, and you install Remository 3.44.3J into Joomla 1.5.x then it should be operable without further action.

If you find any problems, please post again.

Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2008/05/10 22:05 Thanks, I managed to migrate the remository entries from Joomla 1.0.15 database to 1.5.3 database, it seems to me that everything is OK. Only I have one problem:

In every download entry I receive the following warning message (Remository 3.44.3)

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in my_absolute_pathcomponentscom_remositoryremository.html.php on line 211

This warning shows to the following line in componentscom_remositoryremository.html.php

foreach ($customcontrol['S'] as $key=>$sequence) $order[$sequence] = $key;

Is it a minor bug?

Thanks

Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2008/05/10 23:36 It's a feature

Login to the admin side, go to the Remository configuration, save the configuration, and the problem will clear if the Remository installation is ok.

Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2008/05/10 23:51 Thanks. The main problem was that I used the 3.42 version in my old Joomla 1.0.x site. The newest remository has more column in the downloads_repository table, so I had to create the Max_Down_Reg_Day, preamble, Default_Licence and the customizer columns on basis of the repository.sql file. Now it works good.

Thank you.

Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2008/05/11 00:11 The extra fields in table should be created by the installation of Remository. But it depends what order things were done whether that would have worked correctly. Martin Brampton aka Counterpoint

Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2008/07/21 22:48 Hello

Sorry, but I didn´t understand how I do that...the migration. Is there a step by step about the migration?

I ´d like migrate remository 3.42( Joomla 1.0.X) to another installation with joomla 1.5. How I do that? Is it simple?

Thanks a lot

Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2008/07/22 18:40 Yeh, the migration is simple.

Just backup/restore the tables XXXX_downloads and, if you have problems, reinstall the component.

Isn´t it?

I just had character errors.

Great news! I am considering migrate my Joomla 1.0.x website to Joomla 1.5. I also did not found a Migrator plugin for Remository. Now I know I don't need one.

Hope my migration will success later.

Now I think you SHOULD release a Migrator plugin for Remository. Because, if no plugin, the Migrator will not include the Remository database tables in the MySQL script for migration.

Though we can export the tables from old J1.0 installation and then import them into J1.5 database, but, this is different!

The difference is: if the tables were migrated by com_migrator, then old URLs will be also recoreded and re-directed by backlink plugin in Joomla 1.5.

If you just import tables with phpMyAdmin instead of com_migrator, then you will lose these URL redirections!

So, I think we need a com_migrator plugin for Remository in order to keep the old URLs still live on new Joomla 1.5 website.

Thanks.

Great news!

I suggest you setting up a Joomla 1.0 website, install Remository on it, then publish just one or two files in the download area. Then you install com_migrator and try to migrate this website to Joomla 1.5 platform.

Then, you will know if your plugin can do this job.

The most important part is: the plugin will tell Backlink plugin in Joomla 1.5 about how to re-direct old URLs in J1.0 website, so Backlink plugin will let your visitors see the correct download page even when the visitor access your download page by an old URL, instead of showing the 404 page.

Thank you very much!

Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2009/11/19 07:37 Dear Baijianpeng,

Thanks a lot for your timely reply.

I started the migration process with the help of the link which u sent in the reply. I tried to install the third party ETL plugins before the migration process in the joomla 1.0 (ietep2). unfortunately i couldnt upload successfully the plugin, instead i found the below errors.

ERROR: Could not find an XML setup file in the package.
Installation file not found:
/home/auxilin/public_html/joomla1.0/media/install_4b04efeb97eda/

The existing ETL plugin file i downloaded from the below location.
http://www.schlu.net/downloads/2-component/2-commigrator-eventlist-migration-plugins.html

if i upload & install the particular third party ETL plugin, could i get move my remository components successfully to the joomla 1.5 after the migration?

Kindly help me to solve the problem.

Thanks

Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2009/11/19 09:24 hello Saravanan,

I am not a user of Eventlist component.

I can share some experience about how to install the ETL plugin: you should install it via the com_migrator backend. NOT the Joomla installer.

Good luck.

Today I contacted the author of com_migrator, Sam, he is willing to make a Migrator plugin for Remository.

I hope Martin can contact with Sam and work together with him to make sure this plugin will be a perfect one.

Thanks.

Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2009/12/18 00:39 It is a bad news. He did not answer my e-mail either.

Now I have to find someone else to make such a plugin.

What a pity.

Hi, Martin,

This is NOT true.

Today I made a big test. I duplicated my live website (j1.0) on my localhost testing server, then I tried to upgrade it to J1.5 .

Since you did not offer a Migrator plugin for Remository, I had to upgrade the Remository in the way as you told, which I quoted above.

After the core upgrading, I immediately installed Remository v3.52.8 for Joomla 1.5. Then I went to Remository backend to do some check.

Unfortunately, there was a big problem: I did not see any group there!

But, I do have a custom group in Remository on my Joomla 1.0.x website.

That is to say: if upgrade in your way, the user will lose all groups and the special use list in those groups!

Then, I think maybe you need to re-consider the Migrator plugin suggestions.

Thanks.

Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2010/03/07 22:20 Did you migrate the tables xxx_assignments and xxx_permissions that contain the access control information? Provided they are present when Remository is installed, there should be no problem. Martin Brampton aka Counterpoint

Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2010/03/08 01:10 Oh, my God, I did not migrate the jos_assignments and jos_permissions tables.

I only migrated all jos_downloads_xxx tables.

Do you mean xxx_assignments and xxx_permissions tables are also Remository's tables? Or, they are shared by Remository and other extension or the core?

If those tables are created only by Remository, I think you should named them as jos_downloads_ssignments and jos_downloads_permissions.

BTW, I am glad to see you again. Someone said you are too busy on MiaCMS to work on Remository again. Is Remository project still active? When will you release v3.5.3 ?

Thanks.

Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2010/03/08 22:03 Well, ideally I suppose they would follow the naming convention. The reason they are different is that the role based access control system code is taken from Aliro (the project MiaCMS has merged with).

Yes, I'm still working on Remository. I've been very busy - mainly with a second edition of my book on CMS Frameworks and client work.

Remository 3.53 is close to completion. It keeps getting extra additions and fixes!

Re:Remository migration to Jomla 1.5 - 2010/03/08 23:47 Great! Hope v3.5.3 will be better. Do you know that many users turned to jDownloads when you have not updated this component for a long while?

Well, can I conclude that, if manually migrate Remository from J1.0 to J1.5, the user must migrate/copy following tables:

Code:

  xxx_downloads_xxx (11 tables) xxx_assignments (1 table) xxx_permissions (1 table)

enought, right?

Thanks.
