cannot upload/add files - 2008/04/14 18:53 Using Remository 3.43 on Joomla 1.5.2

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to add files to this system. I have tried uploading my files one at a time, I have tried FTP'ing my files to the server and using the 'Add Files Already on Server' option, to no avail.

I have checked, and re-checked the configuration, verified php settings, and even followed the 'step-by-step' instructions located on this site. The system reports that 'Files were successfully added to the remository', however there are no files. I have deleted/recreated distinct containers, etc. I've checked and double-checked upload settings, permissions, and extension types. I really have no further ideas.

Please let me know if there is anything I am missing from a configuration perspective, or if there is additional information I can provide. I've run this with/without SEF enabled, etc.

The files simply do not show up anywhere.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

K

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/05/23 23:30 I have the some problem on a new site I am setting up.

When uploading files larger then 1 MB, I get this:
"This File was unspecified.".

I get the same message with both front-end and back-end uploading.

When trying to upload may files via the front-end, then i get this error:

Warning: fopen(.1) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /components/com_remository/p-classes/remositoryPhysicalFile.php on line 235
Failed to open file: .1

Super Admin and website info is send to you.

Another problem I have discovered is with the Remository Multi-Module for J1.5. When you set it to Newest files, Number of items = 5 and upload more then 5 files the same day, then it just display the first 5 uploaded files and not in the order you uploaded them (they are ordered alphabetically).

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/05/26 08:44 The problem TBK is seeing affects files larger than 2MB. As a test, I uploaded a slightly old copy of Remository, which is just over 1 MB. The reason files larger than 2MB are not handled is that this is the PHP setting at the site for the limit on uploads. This is the situation described in the FAQ on "file unspecified".

Unfortunately, files cannot presently be listed in time sequence, since Remository records only the date of a new file. Therefore, Remository does not know the order of files within one day. This may be changed in a future version, although the transition is a bit tricky to achieve.

I don't have enough information to say anything more about the other problems reported in this thread.

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/05/30 15:03 I too am having this problem. I have used ftp to upload my files into the download dir specified in the remository config but they do not appear at all and I do not receive any error messages. Has anyone solved this issue?

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/06/11 20:21 I as well am having the same problem with Joomla 1.5.3 and Remository 3.44.3J.

I don't get any error messages except when I try to download the file and it tells me it does not exist. I tried changing the download/upload directories to down/up and that didn't help. I also tried big files 100m + and small files under 1mb without any luck. It just shows all files as missing in the remository control panel.

I can provide a temp account if you need it too.

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/06/12 16:17 Remository does not deal with files unless they have been loaded into Remository. It is not sufficient to only FTP the file. Often, it is not the best way.

You can upload a new file from either the user or admin side by using the links available, and filling in details of the file. The file is uploaded as part of the operation (subject to a correct PHP configuration).

Or you can get the files to the server by other means, such as FTP, but in this case, you must ALSO import them into Remository. There are two options for this on the admin side - handle unlinked files, or add files already on the server. The former is for handling files individually, the latter for loading a lot of files with only minimal information.

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/06/12 16:37 So by that I guess you are saying it's a problem with either the joomla install or something else on the web host side of things? Maybe improper php.ini settings or something? My site using Remository

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/06/12 19:41 Hard to say. It appears that ghog has a problem because you have to tell Remository that a file is to be made part of the repository. You mentioned that you had the same problem - but the same as what??

Are you succeeding in uploading a file and having it appear in the Remository displays? Everything has worked apart from the download? Are we talking about a recent upload, or from some time ago? Details are everything

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/06/12 19:54 It's a brand new remository/joomla site. It happens everytim I try to upload a new file. I've tried files as small as 300kb and as large as 128mb.

The data for the download appears in remository, such as the title, license, description etc... but the file is nowhere to be found.

When I go into the control panel it shows me, under missing files, that the file for the download I just created is missing.

When you try and download the file from the user visible front end or the admin backend it comes up with file not found and shows a link back to the main remository page.

So essentially it appears to work (it even seems to take the appropriate time to send the file to the site) then who knows what happens to it. The file is no where to be found. I even tried to change the default location form download/uploads to down/up (and made it writable) I also change the default from File System to Database without any luck.

Does that make it a little clearer? Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/06/12 21:35 Alright. I have figured out the problem and found out that it was permissions on my folders that were all messed up. Now that I know that I am also having problems with uploading screenshots/thumbnails of the software.

What folder do the thumbnails and screenshots go into by default? I suspect there are permission problems there too.

Thanks
Dennis

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/06/12 22:58 On installation, Remository attempts to create ../components/com_remository_files/ and thumbnails are stored in individual subdirectories below that. Martin Brampton aka Counterpoint

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/06/13 00:00 alright I have the permissions fixed on that folder just as I had done to fix the other problem but I still get a "This File was unspecified." error.

Any idea what causes that?

Thanks

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/06/13 16:05 Well I found this.

I downloaded and ran remocheck and it didn't produce any errors. It looks like all the file permissions are correct.

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/09/06 14:10 I'm also having the same problem. New 1.5 install and the latest version of Remository. Files appear to complete upload, but they do not appear in the Admin > Remository > Approvals. Changed permissions to 777 on both uploads and downloads, but no change.

Any suggestions? Could this be a php.ini issue? If so, what changes should I ask my host to make?

Thanks.

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/10/21 23:17 Hi, maybe this is a rather stupid contribution. But I have been searching in the remository backend for half an hour now - and I just can't find where to click to upload a file. (I also searched the FAQ and the Forum.) I expected to find something like a button "Upload new file". Instead, there are options to handle orphan files, missing files and a lot more. But no upload.
May be that I`m too stupid. But shouldn't there be a button in a file management system, that clearly says: Press here for upload from your computer?

Kind regards

Julius

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2008/10/22 21:42 Maybe, but it's not really too hard! Go to the admin Remository control panel. Select "Manage Files". Look in the tool bar, and click on "Add Local" to add a file that will be hosted on your server, or click "Add Remote" to add a file that exists somewhere else and will be accessed via its URI.

Sorry if you didn't find that clear to start with

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2009/01/11 22:50 Using Remository 3.436 on Joomla 1.5.8

I cannot find uploaded files either. As the Super Admin I have added files from the Front End and they show in the containers but when Users upload files I cannot find them to Approve. They do not appear in /download/upload to which my absolute path is set. I even tried have them upload to database but that did not work either.

And in one particular instance, I received the e-mail notification of a new upload at the same time the User received a 'File type Unspecified' Error. The file again was no where to be found.

I've checked and double-checked upload settings, permissions, and extension types. I really have no further ideas. Used ReMoChek and received no error messages.
I have checked everything that I possibly can including reading forum posts but cannot help myself!

Would you be willing to take a look at my site if I send you Admin Acess?

Thanks,
Ronnie

Re:cannot upload/add files - 2010/09/08 20:05 I have recently updated Remository to the latest version (Remository3537J.tar.gz) and ever since the upload link disappeared from the front-end. As an effect, my users can't upload any files anymore. As we use Remository as a digital archive, this is quite an issue.

I already tried reinstalling the component, but without effect.

Could you please advice me what to do?

Thanks!
