how to get pdf's displayed inline? - 2008/09/11 07:13 This may not be a Remository-specific problem, but here goes.

How can I get pdf's to be displayed inline instead of downloaded to the user's computer, then opened with their pdf viewer? I know Safari on OS X is capable of displaying inline pdf's without a plugin.

Right now I have files saved in the database.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Re:how to get pdf's displayed inline? - 2008/09/21 14:59 There is a provisional mechanism in the latest Remository, using Scribd. If you obtain a Scribd registration code and put it into the Remository configuration along with a specification of what extensions are to be handled, you should get a display of the file offered on the detailed information page.

The facility may need more development, but I'd be glad of feedback on what is available so far.

Re:how to get pdf's displayed inline? - 2008/09/22 00:44 The new facility works great, actually. The pdf documents we use have one big table, and I've been unable to make them appear via Scribd.

What I meant was, when the file is downloaded by the browser, to open it within the browser window using a plug-in rather than launching a separate application.

When I've had this problem with other CMS's, the issue was the mime type the server was sending the file as. Would that make sense?

I would like more information on how to use scribd with Remository. I'm setting up an online planroom for a customer and would like to host the PDFs on scribd and have them listed by Remository. There's no documentation about how to set this up, or if it's even possible.

My goal is to be able to have the client bulk upload to Scribd then bulk add to Remository. I'm not sure if it's possible to do it the way I am thinking, but I'd like to be able to have a nested file structure with containers and subcontainers.

I may be able to assist with programming and troubleshooting to further integrate Scribd. Please contact me directly if you'd like.

Thanks,
Ellen

Did you get this working? I'm just starting to look at this option (in addition to scribd). If you got it working already, any feedback or how to notes would be appreciated. If you don't have it working, I'll be posting back here when I do.
